About typefully

This skill lets an agent create, schedule, publish, and manage social-media content across X (Twitter), LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, and Substack Notes through Typefully. It solves the problem of driving Typefully programmatically without browser scraping or the web UI: every action runs through a single dependency-free Node.js CLI (scripts/typefully.js, Node 18+) that outputs JSON, giving an agent a consistent, scriptable interface for drafting and scheduling posts, threads, and long-form X Articles.

Capabilities include mapping dropped Typefully draft URLs to CLI commands, choosing a 'social set' (a connected-account identity) with sensible defaults, creating drafts from text or files with threads split by a delimiter, attaching media and tags, scheduling or immediately publishing, and managing per-platform features via focused reference guides (X analytics/quote/reply/community/disclosure labels, LinkedIn mentions, and a dedicated X Articles guide with Markdown structure, cover media, and comment anchors). It documents comment workflows (create, reply, resolve, delete, and comment-preserving edits) and per-platform constraints such as Substack Notes accepting only single posts and images/GIFs. Authentication is handled through a TYPEFULLY_API_KEY, and the skill explicitly instructs that on auth failures the agent should run the setup command or update the key and stop, rather than hunting for credentials, scraping the web UI, or falling back to a localhost server. It also includes a freshness check advising users when the skill may be outdated.

Target users are social-media managers, creators, developers, and marketing teams who want to automate multi-platform posting and scheduling. Typical use cases are drafting and scheduling a thread, publishing an X Article, and managing draft comments.

FAQ

Which platforms are supported?

X (Twitter), LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, and Substack Notes, plus standalone long-form X Articles, all driven through the Typefully CLI.

What are the prerequisites?

Node.js 18+ (the CLI has no dependencies) and a TYPEFULLY_API_KEY configured via the skill's setup command. All commands run through ./scripts/typefully.js and output JSON.

How does it handle authentication failures?

If the CLI reports an API key not found, authentication failed, or HTTP 401, the skill instructs the agent to run the setup command or update TYPEFULLY_API_KEY and then stop, rather than searching for credentials, scraping the web UI, or using a localhost server.

How do I create a thread versus a single post?

Threads are split with a line containing only '---'. Substack Notes is an exception, taking a single post per draft (images/GIFs only, no video).

What is a 'social set'?

It is Typefully's term for a connected-account identity. Most commands work once a default social set is configured; otherwise you list available sets, pick one, and can save it as the default.
