About swot-analysis
A structured template for producing a thorough SWOT analysis of a product or business position. Casting the model as a strategic analyst, it walks through the four quadrants, Strengths and Weaknesses (internal factors) and Opportunities and Threats (external factors), each with concrete prompts. Strengths cover unique capabilities, brand, customer relationships, technology and IP, cost advantages, and team talent; Weaknesses probe resource constraints, technology gaps, weak awareness, churn, and dependencies; Opportunities look at growing segments, technological advances, regulatory shifts, competitor gaps, partnerships, and adjacent markets; Threats flag emerging competitors, changing preferences, disruption, compliance risk, downturns, and supply-chain issues.
Beyond listing, it emphasizes synthesis: after identifying five to seven items per quadrant, cross-reference them to find strategic insights, such as how strengths capture opportunities, how shoring up weaknesses mitigates threats, which opportunities offset weaknesses, and which threats could exploit them. The process then produces three to five prioritized recommendations with owners and progress metrics.
Four strategic postures guide interpretation: Build (double down on strengths and opportunities), Defend (fortify weaknesses and mitigate threats), Pivot (pursue opportunities that reshape the competitive dynamic), and Exit (when threats and weak positioning dominate). Expected inputs include a product description and current state, competitive landscape, company capabilities and constraints, market trends, and optionally customer feedback or usage data. Suited to strategic assessment, competitive analysis, and evaluating product or business positioning, it recommends comparing against competitors and industry standards, refreshing the analysis quarterly or when conditions shift, and feeding results into roadmap, partnership, and resource-allocation decisions.
