About seoul-bike

seoul-bike is a read-only lookup skill for Seoul's public bike-share system (따릉이). It answers questions like whether bikes are available nearby, how many empty racks a station has, or how many bikes remain at a named station, by querying the Seoul Open Data Plaza real-time rental feed through the k-skill hosted proxy and summarizing available bikes and free docks.

The skill is a generated CLI stub: the authoritative instructions come from running the @nomadamas/k-skill CLI (npx -y @nomadamas/k-skill@0 instruct seoul-bike), which detects the runtime and prints up-to-date guidance. A bundled Python script (scripts/seoul_bike.py, standard library only) exposes three subcommands — nearby (stations around a coordinate within a radius), search (stations matching a name keyword), and realtime (raw paginated feed). The upstream Seoul OpenAPI key is held only on the proxy server, so users do not need their own key and no credential is exposed to the client. An optional KSKILL_PROXY_BASE_URL lets advanced users point at a self-hosted proxy.

It targets Korean-locale users and assistants needing live transit availability, and is explicitly query-only: it does not reserve or rent bikes and includes hard rules against executing payments, sending messages, final submissions, or printing plaintext credentials. Because it is a live feed, answers include the query timestamp. It is a lightweight, safe utility whose real logic lives in the upstream package it invokes via npx.

FAQ

What can this skill tell me?

Real-time counts of available bikes and empty docks at Seoul bike-share stations, found either near a latitude/longitude within a radius or by searching station names, with the query time included.

Do I need my own API key?

No. The upstream Seoul Open Data Plaza key is stored only on the hosted proxy; the client never handles it. You can optionally set KSKILL_PROXY_BASE_URL to use a self-hosted proxy.

What are the prerequisites?

Node.js 18+ so npx can run @nomadamas/k-skill, and Python 3 (standard library only) to run the bundled seoul_bike.py script.

Can it rent or reserve a bike for me?

No. It is query-only by design and includes hard rules against payments, final submissions, messaging, and storing plaintext credentials.

How do I get the full, current instructions?

Run npx -y @nomadamas/k-skill@0 instruct seoul-bike; the CLI prints runtime-appropriate, always-up-to-date instructions, or you can read the source instruction.md on GitHub.
