About localdata-business-status

This skill checks the operating status of Korean neighborhood businesses using the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's LOCALDATA licensing dataset. It downloads region-specific CSV files directly from `file.localdata.go.kr` (no authentication key required) and reports a business's operating/suspended/closed status, detailed status, license date (business age), closure date, business-type classification, and road/lot address. It covers all 208 licensed industry categories (restaurants, cafes, lodging, pharmacies, salons, academies, etc.), which can be specified by Korean name.

Because a nationwide file per industry can be hundreds of MB, a district-level `--region` is required, and downloaded files are cached locally for one day. The bundled Python helper uses only the standard library, and ships with lookup data for the 208 industries and 245 local-government org codes. A notable limitation: this dataset contains no business registration number, so matching is by business-name string only and same-name ambiguity is left for the user to judge; data is refreshed daily and current to about two days prior. The skill reports only retrieved facts, source, and query time, without invented scores or grades.

It targets consumers, researchers, and business-verification users who want to know whether a local shop is open, closed, or long-established without knowing its registration number. Because the file server is public and unauthenticated, the call goes directly from the user's machine rather than through a proxy. The instructions note the privacy boundary that the queried name and region are sent to the LOCALDATA file server, and the skill's hard rules forbid storing plaintext credentials.

FAQ

Do I need an API key?

No. LOCALDATA is an unauthenticated public file download, so the skill calls the file server directly from your machine without a proxy or credentials.

What inputs are required?

A required `--name` (business/shop name) and a required `--region` (district, e.g. 제주제주시, 서울종로구). `--industry` is optional (Korean name or slug, repeatable) and defaults to general/rest restaurants and lodging.

Why must I specify a region?

Nationwide files per industry can be hundreds of MB, so a district-level region narrows the download. Retrieved files are cached locally for one day.

Can it confirm a business's identity exactly?

No. The dataset has no business registration number, so it matches on business-name strings only and does not assert identity; same-name businesses are possible and left to the user to judge. Data is refreshed daily and current to roughly two days prior.
