About arxiv-search
Searching arXiv for preprints and academic papers, retrieving their abstracts, and filtering by topic across fields such as physics, math, computer science, biology, and statistics. It is intended for requests to find research papers, look up preprints, or locate academic articles by subject.
Operationally, a bundled Python script named arxiv_search.py is run with a required search-query string and an optional --max-papers flag that caps how many results are retrieved, defaulting to ten. The invocation uses the absolute skills-directory path from the agent's system prompt together with the project's virtual-environment Python interpreter, so the script runs directly rather than through a separate network tool. For each matching paper it returns the title and abstract, sorted by relevance, giving a fast way to survey the literature on a topic.
The only dependency is the arxiv Python package, which the document notes can be installed with pip if it is missing. Because results come back as plain title-and-abstract pairs ordered by relevance, they are easy to skim, cite, or feed into a follow-up summarization or filtering step. Being a thin wrapper around a single, well-scoped command-line script, it slots neatly into agent workflows that need lightweight, on-demand access to arXiv without standing up a heavier research pipeline or a separate search service.
FAQ
What does the search return?
The title and abstract for each matching paper, sorted by relevance to the query.
How do I limit the number of results?
Use the optional --max-papers flag with a number. If it is omitted, the default is ten results.
What dependency does it require?
The arxiv Python package. If it is missing, it can be installed with pip into the project's virtual environment.
How is the skill invoked?
By running the bundled arxiv_search.py script with a query string, using the absolute skills-directory path and the virtual-environment Python interpreter.
Which subject areas does it cover?
Fields available on arXiv, including physics, math, computer science, biology, statistics, and related areas.
