design-audit

Premium UI/UX design audit and refinement skill. Conducts systematic visual audits of existing apps and produces phased, implementation-ready design plans. Use this skill whenever the user asks to audit a UI, improve an app's visual design, make an interface feel more polished or premium, review design consistency, fix visual hierarchy, or refine spacing/typography/color. Also trigger when the user says "design review", "make it look better", "UI polish", "visual refinement", "design pass", "aud

About design-audit

design-audit is a premium UI/UX audit and refinement skill that conducts systematic visual reviews of existing apps and produces phased, implementation-ready design plans. It is strictly visual: it does not touch functionality, logic, or features, but elevates what already exists. Reach for it to audit a UI, improve an app's visual design, review design consistency, fix visual hierarchy, or refine spacing, typography, and color.

Before forming any opinion, it internalizes the project's context, including the design system, frontend guidelines, app flow, PRD, tech stack, progress notes, and past lessons, and walks every screen of the live app from mobile to tablet to desktop. The audit protocol then reviews each screen against a comprehensive set of dimensions: visual hierarchy, spacing and rhythm, typography, color, alignment and grid, components, iconography, motion, empty/loading/error states, dark mode, density, responsiveness, and accessibility. A reduction filter is applied to every element, so anything that can be removed without losing meaning is removed and visual weight must be proportional to functional importance.

Findings are compiled into a three-phase plan: Phase 1 for critical hierarchy, usability, responsiveness, and consistency issues; Phase 2 for refinement of spacing, typography, color, alignment, and iconography; and Phase 3 for polish such as micro-interactions, transitions, state design, dark mode, and subtle details. The plan includes any required design-system token updates and implementation notes precise enough for a build agent to execute.

The skill deliberately waits for approval before implementing anything, executes only what is approved, and presents results after each phase. It observes strict scope discipline: it touches visual design, layout, interaction, motion, and accessibility, but not application logic, state management, API calls, or data models. All values must reference design-system tokens rather than hardcoded ones, and if a needed component or flow is undocumented, it flags or asks rather than inventing silently.

FAQ

Will this skill change my app's functionality?

No. It is purely visual and does not touch application logic, state management, API calls, or data models; if a design fix requires a functional change, it flags it for the build agent.

What does it review during an audit?

Every screen against dimensions including visual hierarchy, spacing, typography, color, alignment, components, iconography, motion, empty/loading/error states, dark mode, density, responsiveness, and accessibility.

How are the recommendations organized?

Into three phases: Phase 1 critical usability and consistency fixes, Phase 2 refinement of spacing, typography, and color, and Phase 3 polish such as micro-interactions and state design.

Does it implement changes automatically?

No. It presents the plan and waits for approval, executes only what is approved, and reviews results after each phase before proceeding.

How does it handle colors and spacing values?

All values must reference existing design-system tokens rather than hardcoded colors, spacing, or sizes; if a needed component does not exist, it proposes it rather than inventing one silently.
