About blog-outline

Blog Outline is a SERP-informed outline generator that produces a skeletal blog-post structure — heading hierarchy, section targets, and content-gap notes — without the deep statistics research or full competitive analysis of a heavier content brief. It solves the up-front planning problem of writing content that can rank: instead of starting from a blank page, the writer gets an H2/H3 skeleton grounded in what currently ranks for the target keyword, ready for a downstream write step to consume.

The workflow gathers the topic, target keyword, and search intent, then uses web search to analyze the full visible search surface — classic top results plus AI Overviews, AI Mode, People Also Ask, featured snippets, and citation surfaces — noting each competitor's heading structure, length, visual elements, questions covered, unique angles, and gaps. It may fetch the top few results to extract headings and metadata, and does so with explicit safety controls: treating fetched pages as untrusted, allowing only http/https, rejecting javascript:, data:, and file: URLs, blocking private or reserved IPs after DNS resolution, validating redirects, and capping response size and timeout. It then emits a structured outline with title suggestions, target parameters, per-section word-count and chart/image markers, an optional FAQ section drawn from People Also Ask, internal linking zones, and a content-gap analysis, saved to an outlines directory.

It targets SEO writers, content strategists, and marketing teams who want a fast, competitively-informed article skeleton. The skill positions itself as lighter than a full content brief and points users to blog-brief when deeper research is needed.

FAQ

How is this different from a full content brief?

It is deliberately lighter: it produces structure, H2/H3 hierarchy, word-count targets, and optional FAQ slots only. For full competitive analysis, statistics research, and image suggestions, the skill recommends using blog-brief instead.

What does the SERP analysis cover?

The full visible search surface, not just blue links: classic top 5 results plus AI Overviews, AI Mode where available, People Also Ask, featured snippets, and citation/source surfaces. For each competitor it records headings, length, visuals, questions, unique angles, and gaps.

Does it fetch competitor pages safely?

Yes. It only fetches the top 2-3 results when snippets are insufficient, treats fetched pages as untrusted data (ignoring page instructions), allows only http/https, rejects javascript:, data:, and file: URLs, blocks private/reserved IPs after DNS resolution, validates redirects, and caps response size and timeout.

Where is the output saved?

To outlines/[slug]-outline.md (or a user-specified path), creating the outlines/ directory if it does not exist, and confirmed ready for the /blog write step to consume.
