mcp-vods

An agent-facing bridge for finding and playing streaming video, covering movies, TV series, anime, short dramas, and variety shows across multiple source sites, with optional casting to a television. It connects to the mcp-vods MCP server through mcporter, invoked as npx -y mcporter for better compatibility, and exposes a small set of tools for search and playback so an agent can help a user track shows and continue series.

Searching uses the vods_search tool with a keyword and an optional page number. Because it queries several source sites at once, it can be slow, so the doc advises allowing generous timeouts and retrying on failure. The full tool schema can be discovered with mcporter list --schema --all-parameters. Two casting paths are supported. mitv_play_media casts a media URL to a Xiaomi TV and requires the MITV_LOCAL_IP or MITV_LIST_CFG environment variable. tvbox_play_media casts to an Android TV and requires TVBOX_LOCAL_IP or TVBOX_LIST_CFG plus the TvBox app installed on the television.

A practical caveat is built in: some source sites return a web page URL rather than a direct media link (without .m3u8 or .mp4), which cannot be cast or played as is. In those cases, fetching the page with curl -sSL to resolve the real playback address is recommended. The overall design keeps the interface thin, with search returning playback candidates and the play tools handing a resolved URL plus a TV address to the appropriate casting backend, making it well suited to keeping up with episodes across sessions on Xiaomi or Android televisions.
